More of this and less of the extra prom shits

I don't think anyone should be screwed over when it comes to education, from pre-school to college. The amount of money your parents have shouldn't determine whether or not a 3-18 year old gets a quality education that allows them to build a foundation to eventually get into college. Neither should race, athletic talents, etc. It should be purely merit based system. Students shouldn't be punished for things that are out of their control like race. Even if I benefit from the system, I don't feel good about it because I want my acceptance to be based soley on my accomplishments.

If you look at med school acceptance statistics, they paint a very gross picture. The disparity in qualifications needed to be accepted as absolutely ridiculous, and it doesn't even solve the problems facing education in America today. The disparities are extremely real, objective, and well documented.

So yes, while people complaining "x,y,z person got in because of affirmative action and I didn't" likely are not the type of people who would have gotten in anyway, it happens to thousands and thousands of people each year.

The fact that one group of students has a 50% chance of getting into med school with a 2.8-2.99 GPA (low GPA) and a 27-29 MCAT (average scores) and another group only has an 8% chance with those same scores, with the only difference being their skin color, is disgusting. And for those %s to even out, the second group either needs a near perfect GPA (3.8-4) or a near perfect MCAT score (39-45).
