I don’t really want to reply to this comment with an argument because your arguments are valid, I just want to clarify a couple things about my original post. I suppose that my initial argument did not necessarily concern whether or not the term “gusano” is justified, more seeking to address the sentiment that these refugees were necessarily the same as those that fled post-Revolution. I would rarely wish the death upon a legitimate refugee, regardless of whether or not they have reactionary politics as long as they were not involved in political organization, which we have no reason to believe is the case based on this tiktok. I believe that many of these comments are based upon an ahistorical application of the economic character of those who fled in the 60s upon those who fled in the 90s, which has nothing at all to do with the socialist revolution and everything to do with economic collapse. Second, I didn’t mean to imply that the use of the term gusano itself is a meme, but we are in a meme subreddit so there are obviously shitposts and ironic comments made here, which is what I was referring to.
