Moronic Monday - Your weekly stupid questions thread

How is a lean bulk favourable for gaining muscle while putting on less fat? So let’s say I’m bulking normally at +500 calories - that roughly puts on 0.5 kg/week. Of this, the maximum muscle I can put on is 0.25 kg/week according to estimates.

If I’m lean bulking at +250 calories, I would expect I’d still put on fat. Would I still be putting on 50:50 fat/muscle or is it that the slightly reduced calorie excess means I’m mostly gaining muscle instead?

I’m asking because I’m currently 80 kg and want to get to 85 kg with a low body fat as my ultimate aim. I’m probably around 14ish% although I’ve only used callipers to measure. I’m not sure whether I should go for a lean bulk, which means I’d put on weight slower and then have to cut less fat, or whether I should go for a normal bulk where I’ll end with a bigger need to cut.
