Mortgage requirements (citizen, no JP work history)

OK; when you said you have 5 years of professional experience, I had you pegged as being in your late 20s. With a wife and three kids, you obviously need more space than 40 m2. (The neighbors across the hall are raising two teenage daughters in their 38-m2 apartment -- very crampedd, even if your family members are as short in stature as my neighbors!)

If I were in your situation -- and I admit that I've never experienced anything like the salary you earn -- I would stay another few years in India, pile up a huge amount of savings, and then maybe pay cash for an old house in Tokyo or Yokohama in one of the quieter areas. I lived in Bunkyo-ku for a while and there are freestanding houses for under 30 million there; more outlying areas are much cheaper. Are your grandparents letting you inherit their house?
