Most of Canada's oilsands must stay in ground if world to limit global warming: report

It's not like suddenly tomorrow the water is 30 feet higher.

Obviously not but enacting on these issues is a step closer. We have time to avoid a lot of the potential consequences but we are not acting with the sense of urgency that this situation requires. The level of destruction our oceans have faced is a testament to that, as is the level of air pollution.

We can just breathe coal ash and methane anyway, what value does the biosphere have? Not like we need it to live or anything.

Ontario has fixed these things. I'm sure all the other provinces can do the same.

It is a global problem and requires unilateral action if we are going to contribute equally, until then it is a good idea to reduce our levels of emissions as much as possible.

That's not plausible. That's even more batshit insane than saying not to dig up the oilsands.

Reducing consumption of some goods is possible. For example, if people in cities used bicycles more often it would reduce consumption of oil, or just not buying as many trinkets, not eating so much meat, (which is a problem for both health, agricultural sustainability and the environment) etc.

The biggest issue here is the constant need for exponential growth, which is in itself a problem. That is a far more complex issue.

It has been pretty bad for our economy basically destroying our manufacturing industry which at the time was our prime industry.

Ontario lost it's manufacturing industry for more reasons than that.

I'm totally aware of the situation. It's typically environmentalists who exclaim doomsday scenarios and then propose things which are utterly impossible. You're the one with your head up your ass.

I am not suggesting a doomsday scenario is going to happen, I am saying that life will be better if we mitigate our problems now. It is quite likely that we will see major economic repercussions in the future. The unaccounted for and unpaid for damages we are doing now are essentially loaning the money from our future economies.

We are polluting without making the financial investments needed to offset the damage.
