"The US is the most charitable country in the world"

Americans aren't honest but other countries are? Where are your stats about Ireland? Or is it just that we can take their word?

The US has foundations that raise money, and I don't think it's uncommon at all to donate to a foundation that affects you. My grandmother passed away from alzheimers, so we donate and participate in those fundraisers. Cancer is another big one. How many families are unfortunately affected? I promise you that those who are donate wherever they can. Usually when someone passes away, requests are made like "in lieu of flowers, please donate to such and such charity" (usually something that the person cared about or suffered from).

Toys for tots is very popular around the holidays, as well. Local supermarkets typically have deals around now where you earn enough points (by spending money there and using your rewards card) and you qualify for a free ham or turkey. Those that don't want it can then donate it. I just donated mine. I gave my free ham to a woman who was asking if she qualified but didn't last Easter (I was behind her in line). People do food drives around this time of year, as well.

It's ignorant to make an assumption based on nothing and state it as a fact when a poll says otherwise (but then claim that the word of others is more accurate because... You say so).

Americans donate just as I'm sure people all over do. People aren't usually inherently assholes.
