Most of You Drive Better Cars Than Me, Kenyan Landlord Tells Tenants Who Requested 50% Rent Waiver

When this all started, my landlords (a middle class couple) were the ones to reach out to me and told me essentially the same thing. Basically "Don't worry, just keep us updated, and we'll get through this."

My workplace is temporarily closed, while they haven't been financially affected, so they've passed along every COVID benefit they've received, even stuff like childcare becoming temporarily free (Australia). My rent has basically been pocket change.

End result - no stress on either party, neither of us is in financial trouble, and I've been able to put aside unemployment money as a buffer for any gaps when business resumes and benefits end.

I consider myself fortunate, but it really is nice to be in a situation where open communication and mutual understanding works.
