The most important line in Joe Biden's victory speech

Nazis, racists, supremacists, theocrats and neofascists should be utterly shunned and left out in the cold, but there is going to have to be a softening of attitudes towards those who have implicitly supported them by supporting Trump and the looney side of the Republican party or the “two solitudes” of the USA will never come together. There is also going to have to be a willingness by both sides to leave the big policy bugbears of each side on the back burner: gun control, abortion rights/access, and issues like that - I don’t really see how compromise is possible.

Where compromise might be possible is on economic and environmental policy, especially if they are done in a way to increase rust-belt employment and manufacturing woes. I think if that base of Trump’s support starts to feel served, you may see more Republicans willing to play ball.

I’m not too hopeful this will happen, I suspect we’ll have another Obama situation where Biden is stymied every chance the Republicans get. It is really too much in their interest to make Biden look ineffectual. We’ll see, I’d happily admit I’m wrong.
