Those cities were raping, murdering and worshiping false gods. That's why they were obliterated out of existence.

And yet Ezekiel spells out the sin of Sodom:

she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.

Why do you think Jesus even brought up Sodom when talking to his disciples before they went out to foreign lands penniless, foodless, and homeless?

I think you're missing the point if you think this discussion is actually about homosexuality. I brought up Sodom and Gomorrah because the way the story has been taught in America (and elsewhere) has been to emphasize lewd sexuality. This emphasis is a perversion of what the books of Ezekiel and Matthew spell out quite clearly.
