Mother bankrupt, heartbroken after fight for police accountability in son’s death

You take things so out of context, its almost not worth responding to your post. I stated above and ill restate it - officers and medical professionals and military members should all be kept in check and under scrutiny due to the nature of their work.

However

The scrutiny come from the proper establishments that are in place to do so. Not by people who have no business doing so, when they don't know what happened.

I made the point that he was schizophrenic to illustrate that schizophrenics do have psychotic episodes that result in irrational violence, a pretty simple concept to grasp.

I never tried to say what happened or armchair quarterback, I am saying that noone should armchair quarterback these situations, because like you said; there were no witnesses.

I agree with you about police officers as I clearly stated as well, there are bad irrational cops out there, and I can point to many instances of unjust behaviour by officers. But people on the internet, and on reddit especially like to infer that this is some rampant problem in Canada, when realistically the vast majority of our officers are professional people who go to work to help people. A large part of their job is dealing with the mentally ill and schizophrenics, they understand them more than you do. In my experience I have never seen an officer mistreat someone with a mental health problem, I have however seen countless positive interactions.

They don't deserve the criticism of every professional like yourself who doesn't understand the reality of these situations.

I have nothing but sympathy for the family, situations like this happen frequently and they are tragic. I never once suggested that every police killing is justified, in fact I would say that many are not. The Sammy Yatim case comes to mind. But in that instance there was footage and many other witnesses/officers,in the case being mentioned in this post this was not the case.
