you don’t need to explain anything to me. i’m a gay person who has lived in abject poverty in religious environments and without housing at times for years. it’s very middle class and sheltered to compare any of this to women not even having the right to vote or black people being lynched on a regular basis. people, especially from the opposing side (and the aim should be to convince them into more benevolent views, not to piss them off even more or discredit yourself) will not take you seriously if you continue to make these hyperbolic associations.

it is bad, we have regressed in multiple ways, but none of it is comparable to pre-civil rights movement oppression. none of it.
