Mothers warning college males at California colleges

there was discussion about the difference between having sex you regret and sexual assault.

this discussion is now framed in the light of "victim blaming".

I'm an anti-rape culture feminist. But when anti-rape advocates go as far as never wishing to question the validity of a victim's statement, when "innocent until proven guilty" goes out the window, i jump ship.

I don't mean to equate the horrors of rape to those false accused, i don't mean to imply that both happen in equal numbers, i don't mean to draw a false equivalence in the slightest.

But when your stance to combat rape culture is so absurd that you cease to care about who's innocent and who's guilty purely out of the desire to not re-traumatize a possible victim? You're fucked in the head.

These types love using college campuses and the school administration to further their way of life - b/c unlike law enforcement, they don't have a high standard (if any standard) of proof. The school is going to care about it's PR, it's liability and it's going to act on that alone. Which means sometimes they're going to protect potential rapists like they were more likely too in the past, and nowadays they're more likely to punish the merely-accused in some fashion. Both are wrong.

This is a matter for law enforcement and the decisions and outcomes of a legal investigation is the other thing that should be impacting punishing action by the school administration.

You want to stamp out questioning women's state of drunkenness, their promiscuous behavior or what they are wearing as a "reason" they got raped - and I'll be marching right beside you against that sort of character assassination that's often used to excuse the actions of a rapist.

But the second you stop caring about innocent to proven guilty, you've lost an ally.
