Motorola is already working on Android 5.1 for Moto G1 and above! (xp r/android)

'm not talking about myself. The Moto G is great and motorola support isn't bad, it's actually good. But tell that to the majority of people who buys an android phone today

Apologies, thought we were talking about our MotoG's... What would I tell "people who buys an android phone today"? I'd definitely tell them don't buy a current phone that ships with only 4.1 or 4.2.

printing, trim support, smart bluetooth support, OLG 3.0 support, immersive mode, sandboxing

BTW SmartBluetooth requires a new radio AFAIK for the "low energy" part of the spec. And this leads into part of what I was saying... you think it's easy to just add the features and they are obliquely obligated to do so. Personally I don't know if it's so easy and definitely don't think they are obligated. Will conceed that I also wish they'd (hardware mfgrs) would coalesces around a common "core" of hardware tech but then we have the same Wintel issue of the (kinda) past and problem of maintaining backward compatibility while also trying to add all the new features. Holy Hell.

Again fully willing to admit maybe I'm missing something, but the phones being sold today with 4.1 or 4.2... are they saying you can have all that "in the future"? And do you know there won't be updates for any phones? Again when I purchased mine a year ago, it had... gosh, 4.NoClue and was updated to 4.4.4 And although it's not a bare bones basement android, the MotoG is certainly not a flagship or middle weight. Any mildly expensive phone today should have at least 4.4.4

Just trying to understand why I don't expect ~unlimited updates and you do. Never seen any marketing that suggested it. On my old phones I just unlocked them and went with a custom rom when they got long in the tooth. Got exactly what I expected for free... and update along with lots of little annoying issues.

My MotoG isn't the fastest and I'm not a power user. I'm sure once you start adding all those new features it's gonna get even more stressed so honestly, think I'd want some new hardware anyway. I mean, I use this thing all day every day... replacing it every 1.5-2years doesn't seem that big a deal really.
But do hear you... it got downvoted but I'll say again... it's a case of customers wanting to pay the least while mfgrs want to make the most. And this is how the market has sorted out. There are still lots of people that are willing to pay big buck$, big to my sensibilities anyway, for 1 or 2 generation old iPhones. If the phone does what it claimed when sold, it's just upgrade fever IMHO.
