The movie Dope was like a movie-long commercial for Bitcoin.

LOL, I don't know why you're making assumptions about me when I am pointing out the reasons why I didn't enjoy this movie based on its poor directing, but I'll make it short since this is not really a public forum to discuss critical opinions on cinema. First off, I'm an older millenial who lived during those times and knew more about 90's hip hop and grunge than many people because I'm just naturally a trivia geek. Second, I live in LA and drove to Inglewood and Compton hundreds of times for work related reasons. You must have enjoyed this movie like many film critics, citing that it was a glimpse into the life of an inner city black youth trying to fight against the norm of racial stereotypes imposed on him. OK, so why did it turn into some stereotypical movie about hustling drugs for a white man? That's the point when I walked out of the theater but if the third act saved the movie, then by all means, I'll concede that I should have given it more of a chance but I seriously doubt it got better than worse at that point. Another thing was there was absolutely no character development for the three teens. We see one or two instances why Malcolm is smart but never hear a peep from the other two. In fact, do we even know the Indian (or Mexican) kid's name or do they even show his life once? I'll tell you what this was. The use of the 90s retro-fad to get audience members to "geek out" was nothing but a gimmick by dressing the characters in 90s fashion and adding a thin veneer of MAINSTREAM, not underground 90s hip hop, over the poor acting to make this movie seem like something it wasn't. Oh, and they threw in A$AP Rocky to make it even "kewler." It was not an indie comedy as it's classified nor a drama that makes a statement on today's black youth. I could name every song that was being played and remember those videos being on MTV's rotation thousands of times, so yeah.. sorry, not underground like you wanna believe. Feel free to correct me on any of these points if I'm wrong because I'd be fascinated to hear a counter argument.
