Movie studios might let people rent films still in theaters for $50

Many professions, including law and medicine, require that people be able to do work at a moment's notice when the circumstances change and require it, especially during the day on weekends at prime matinee time.

As for my second scenario, you don't have family or friends who could be stranded or worse hospitalized? It never occurs to you that at the other end of a missed call might be someone you love who is in need? What a privileged life you must lead to never have that concern.

Would you ignore important work or family needs just to preserve "muh immersion"? Good luck having kids!

I did not assume you hate technology. Reddit comments are generally written with a broader readership in mind. But there is certainly an anti-phone sentiment latent in your post.

You wouldn't say "you can't set aside two hours to ignore your brother who is stranded on the road" or "you can't set aside two hours to ignore a client who got arrested" or "you can't set aside two hours to ignore a patient who is in cardiac arrest• or "you can't set aside two hours when the babysitter is worried your child is sick."

It should be obvious to any rational adult that, no, sometimes you cannot set aside two hours because unforeseen circumstances arise and take away the time you previously thought you had free to waste on a movie. Cell phones are simply a means of transmitting the message that "oh shit, something more important happened." And any time I receive a call from a co-worker or family who know I am off-work or at the movies there is that nagging concern that maybe I need to know what happened or else they wouldn't call.

I hope no one calls you while they need your help and you're immersed in the world of whatever movie you're watching.

And I'm sorry that you don't understand 24/7 availability. Maybe your job is some 9 to 5 shift that isn't all that consequential at the end of the day.

To return to my original point, all of that is simply to say that though I certainly don't check my phone every time I go to a movie, I have needed to do so before. And I have been around others in the theater who either had to check their phones or did so because they wee bored. Who knows.

Regardless, that is an inconvenience I don't have at my home theater. That is one of many reasons listed above which make me wish I could see new releases at home.
