Personally I love Alberta. I have lived in Edmonton, Calgary and now rural. I've found good people in all three places, and dickish people in all three places. I have known racists. I have also known incredibly kind and forward thinking people. Politics right now are awful, but politics can and do change. They might change slower here than some places, but they will certainly change.

I am a runner and a nature enthusiast and I love being this close to what I consider the prettiest places on earth. Our mountains and parks are unparalleled and the prairie fields and badlands are also lovely. Our large cities are much more liberal than rural areas, like everywhere, especially Edmonton.
