Where (in no particular order): Charlotte, the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill), the Triad (Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem), and Greenville or Spartanburg South Carolina, or any smaller towns outside these areas.

Since you work from home (and bringing your job) you might also consider a few smaller towns, but keep in mind the sub-culture differences are more evident (old school conservatives, young progressives, rich, poor, etc.): Salisbury, Mebane, Burlington, Asheville, Weaverville, Hendersonville, Mooresville, Hillsborough, Pittsboro, Saxapahaw, Haw River, Boone, probably a few more.

Municipal fiber-optic broadband is available in Wilson and Salisbury.

You'll want to search the subreddits of these areas for previous "where should I live?" requests that are more neighborhood specific.
