Moving from Fortune 500 to Tech (xpost r/financialcareers)

So as an update, it’s been quite a while and I accepted the role in tech. It’s been really great so far, speaking to work life balance I was able to get away with 40-45 hours most weeks at the F500 except for busy times (qtr/AOP). Here it seems like the culture is 45-50hrs regularly, though it’s not work work work. Lots of downtime, and again busier during busy times I mentioned before where a Saturday once a quarter is almost guaranteed.

Overall I blame the amount of ex bankers/IB that work there. They’d laugh off the idea of 5pm but seem to think 6pm is early dismissal, whereas the F500 felt like everyone was trying to get out shortly after 5ish if they could.
