MRW I spend too much time on Reddit

If they reject it, that's their prerogative, but to not even mention it is irresponsible. Most rational people don't reject at least the basic concept of it applied broadly to society. It's a concept that most people don't even know about in the first place.

If somebody doesn't know there's ongoing racism in society, they haved lived in a cave or don't want to see it. It's not a controversial observation outside that circle.

The first is more likely to acknowledge what he's doing whereas the latter is far less likely. Hence why it would be important for the person in the latter example to understand why what they did was wrong and more importantly what the biases are that caused them to do that.

Given that police officers excuse excessive use of their force all the time, that's doubtful. There's no real way to tell anyone they're racist because even among racists, few acknowledge that they are.

I never said it was gone. Very few police officers are explicitly racist, it's a misconception to think that. However; implicit racism is certainly prevalent and shows when looking at trends in arrests. It also comes through as a contributing factor in violent crimes committed by police. Police officers 60 years ago would have been more than happy to say they beat a black man because he was black, nowadays you will never get an officer to admit that, and many won't admit it to themselves. It makes it much harder to accuse them of anything without making the distinction.

It's not easy to accuse them of implicit bias either, especially if they don't think they have it. Saying most police aren't racist really ignores the point about the justice system overall, in arrests, sentencing, and imprisonment being so. That's a prime example right there; when I point out that there's racism in the justice system, you default to defending the personal integrity of police officers.

Well, most people don't even know what implicit and explicit racism are. Informing people of the difference would be a good start before you go accusing them of being bigots.

We were talking about telling people of their implicit biases; if you're racially biased against black people, you're a bigot by default. Stepping around that won't make a difference.
