Do you multiclass?

Generally, speaking, I do not multiclass.

However, I have multiclassed exactly one character because it fit thematically for what their abilities were - I went Artificer 1/Chronurgy Wizard X in order to get Cure Wounds, as his time manipulation could "rewind" injuries for healing.

As a DM, in my session zeroes, I specify that multiclassing is allowed as long as it makes sense story-wise, motivation-wise, and (if necessary) the consequences for doing so are recognized. If you want a one level dip for Hexblade, that's 100% okay, as long as you're okay with the responsibilities tied to having a patron (or the repercussions that might come up, should you ignore them).
