Multilinguals, what's your "they didn't realise I could understand their language" story?

For reference I'm a pretty white Mexican guy. Worked in Jewelry at a soon to be bankrupt retail store located in shopping malls. One day a hispanic man and his wife came in and she said they wanted to see prices on some watches. So the entire time the husband didnt speak english but his wife did. As I'm telling them about prices and sales we have going on I hear him calling me a bastard and basically a con man, but the whole time hes all smiles with me thinking I dont understand what hes saying. They end up not buying anything but at the end I up saying in Spanish that I'm sorry that I couldnt find something they liked and that I hoped they would come back again soon anyways. The wife was mildy embarrassed and the husband was shocked and then angry at me as they turned to leave. It's the small moments.
