music for mercy - candle light vigil held at Martin Place. 29 Jan 2015 - amazing turnout!

Does everyone have to be so hostile and close minded about this? No one is saying what they did is right, but I think for a lot of people this situation is relatable in the sense that we've all done stupid shit in our past and maybe or maybe not been caught and disciplined. There's a chance that within your social circle someone has probably took drugs regularly, even sold them at a much younger age. Drugs aside even, plenty of people have at some point in their lives been involved in something that the rest of the general public see as unethical, dangerous, mischievous, whatever.

By being caught and going through the Indonesian justice system, different to ours as it may be they have since, from what I've read become somewhat reformed men. Learning Indonesian and teaching English at the prison, Studying and teaching art classes to name a few of their regular activities. Many prisoners who have since been released have been known to go and put skills taught to them by these 'scum bag drug smugglers' to use for good in their communities. Would Sukumaran and Chan been different people all together had they not been caught and had a successful operation? Most probably not, but by being forced to go through some kind of legal system they have on some level been rehabilitated which to us here in Australia is the purpose of being imprisoned upon being declared guilty.

Personally I don't condone what they took part in 10 years ago and obviously that's a pretty general consensus for everyone across this story regardless of opinion. However knowing someone whose fate has been more or less certain for a long while now and then recently confirmed that they are to be put to death by firing squad isn't by any stretch easy to stomach, particularly I imagine those who know the men. The idea of the Music for Mercy, aside really from being one last plea, was for people to support and sympathise with those close to the men that will be coping with this long after it's gone from the media.

... my bad.
