The irony is Ottomans never truly ruled with Sharia law. Just two examples from completely different times:

Mehmet II. the conquerer (15th century) instigated fratricide(killing of siblings) just to prevent civil wars caused by internal strife between heirs to throne. This is %100 against Sharia, completely cruel but secular.

Abdulhamit II. (late 19th century) had many concubines yet he was also married with 6 women. He obtained a special fatwa from his Seyhul Islam(highest religious authority of the Empire) so that he can bypass 4 wifes max rule.

As a amateur Turkish historian, I can count many instances how Ottomans ruled with secular laws.
