My 16 year old friend got a DUI and was charged as an adult because of a prior underage...let’s just say I give him a hard time about it

Yikes... A DUI at 16? With a prior?

I'm not here to judge... but your friend needs to make some serious changes in his life. Not sure if joking about it like this and making light of a very serious issue is going to help your friend in the long run. You might want to consider helping your friend change, and helping your friend understand how serious a DUI is, rather than joking around...

If something doesn't change... your joke of "Gonna Go To Jail Forever" might come true. The penalties get worse, and worse, and when you're talking about multiple DUI's on someones record you're usually facing mandatory time in jail. Your friend has a record before he can even vote for President. Your friend has an alcohol problem before he can even legally drink alcohol.

People on this sub are facing severe depression, some are suicidal, some are forced into declaring bankruptcy, some lose their jobs. I've seen one story on this sub where the poster killed someone, and was sentenced to several years in jail. Most of us aren't laughing.

Your friend probably needs support, and probably needs to hear from someone he respects that a change needs to happen. Maybe you could be that person.
