You can bet that if anyone did that to either my girlfriend or me (I'm also a girl) I would try my damndest to kick the shit out of them. Especially in OP's scenario, having been assaulted in a manner that began with a stranger grabbing me from behind, that would likely be my instinct.

The boyfriends issues are the anger at not getting the table - who cares? and the deliberately hitting someone on the road - seriously dangerous and no justification whatsoever. His reaction to protect his partner from a sexual advance is fine, I doubt she'd be traumatized by it if it hadn't been sandwiched between two incidents of inappropriate anger. The car thing is the scariest of it all.
