My [27F] mother [52F] is forever disappointed in me and not scared to let me know. I resent being around her

If you care about dealing with this, rather than just cutting your mother out of your life, you need to understand why she puts you down.

It's because she needs someone to feel superior to. For instance, my own mother is a world-class narcissist. Since I was a very small boy, she always told me, and the rest of the world, about my "great brain," how I had a world-class intelligence, smarter than anyone she had ever met.

When we disagree, however, which we do frequently, am I ever right? No. And that makes her smarter than the world's smartest man.

That's the trick that's played on the children of narcissists. Once you see through it, it's just sad.
