Honestly to me he sounds like a really good guy. He didn’t go through with it, was completely honest with you and seems sincere. After being together for that long, I can’t imagine that a person wouldn’t be tempted here and there. We are all human and it’s natural to have desires and for the eye to wonder from time to time. Especially when you factor in alcohol.. but even with that he chose not to act on it and to be honest with you about it.

You guys should have a talk about why he may have been urged to take it as far as going up to her room, and since you’re already communicating openly I doubt you will have any issues in resolving whatever possible factors may have played a role in his decision to do that
