This is one of those things you almost think like...yeah r/thathappened or something. Because how in the 30 minutes of freaking out and then calming down and calling the police, waiting for them to get there, then filing the report do you not remember "oh wait I was just in my car 30 minutes ago wasn't I?"
But I had a friend do something similar, so I know it happens.
My friend was in college at the time and he had a thing for this girl. If you hear him tell it, she was gorgeous. She was a senior in the top sorority at the school, every guy wanted her...it was basically like she was a character in a teen romance movie. He asks her out, and to his surprise she not only says yes, but she's crazy excited to go out.
Fast forward to the night, he walks over from his apartment to hers; the sororities and frats all lived really close to one another, and they shared a huge parking lot. He gets to the door and she's all ready to go talking about how excited she is. He leads her out to his parking space and he's shocked; his car, which he's in love with, is gone! He had just parked it there not a couple of hours ago. He freaks out, and tells her his car has been stolen; she joins in the freaking out and can't believe it, i mean after all they go to school in such a safe area! He calls both school security and the police, and they both wait there anxiously out in the cold; talking the whole time about how insane this is. Security comes and he tells them what happened, and they wait there with them for the police. About 10 minutes later, as the police are rolling up, and after a half hour now of them all freaking out about this happening; he said the lights from the police cars made him remember. He'd parked his car in the school parking lot earlier that day for class and had chosen to run home after the gym. So the cops pull up and get out of the car getting ready to write the report, and he's standing there with a very concerned group consisting of the girl of his dreams and 2 school security; all of them out in front of his building and making a huge scene with all of the car lights; and he has to tell them all "hey...uh...i just remembered....i actually parked my car in the other lot..."
He said the girls face just dropped, and everyone looked at him like he was actually fucking retarded. The police just sighed and told him he was an idiot and got back in the car, and security did something similar and they all left. And the girl decided she was not feeling well and decided to go back inside.
You know I can't imagine doing this myself, but apparently it happens.
