My boyfriend (19m) says I’m controlling him when I ask for him to do basic hygiene

What you a te doing is the same then the "you must be 130 pounds to date me".

Most people do change their clothes and put sunscreen, but is still your bf right to choose to do it or not. You shouldn't demand it or push him into doing it.

But then again, the same way someone is entitled to have a preference concerning weight, you are entitled to have a preference on basic hygiene.

I agree that he probably is struggling with his mental heath. But then again, he is grow man. You can talk or incentive him to get help, but the decision is his. You can leave him or stay depending on his choice, but you don't get to dictate his behavior - no matter how deviant it is, if he's not hurting anyone, it's fair game. (unless, of course, if he is considered mentally incapable or something. But it does not seem to be the case).
