I don't get the boyfriend's "complaints". Both have discussed engagement and both know that it's coming and boyfriend is shopping for the ring. The rest is up to him. What does it matter which ring he buys? Every friend I have told their boyfriend which ring they wanted either by sending photos or actually by helping design the ring w/ their boyfriend ahead of time. Then the boyfriend planned the proposal and waited however long he wanted to pop the question. Not sure what the issue is - OP is right, she's going to wear it, it should be something she likes. On top of it, OP chose a decently priced ring - nothing materialistic to me here.
