jesus here we go with the idealistic view of romatic relationships. This has nothing to do with being gay or my own personal relationships and everything to do with appropriateness. Did he know this flatmate? Have they been friends since they were kids? If not, why did he really pick a gay man to live with, they only make up 10% of the population.
