My boyfriend (M22) and I (F19) just got in a pretty big argument for the first time, everything feels really off, and I'm not sure how to handle things.

Thanks for your advice. I really hope this didn't come across as that we are constantly fighting or that this is the norm in an argument between us. A big part of why this upset me so much is because it is completely an anomaly- if this was happening on the regular I would not be with him at all because it would be very distressing. We are generally incredibly good at communication, which is why in almost a year we've had 2 big arguments including this one that I can remember. Especially in the last few months, we've been super good about shutting down petty fights before they start with effective communication and making each other feel appreciated after arguments.

Also, at the end of my post I did state that I want to work this out.

I don't want to give up. I love him with all of my heart and I feel like we can fix this but I have no idea how. He is also willing to try anything.
