We haven't had a lot of arguments, but he's very much the kind of person that speaks his mind even if it hurts. I'm generally the sit back and take it kind (thanks, abuse!) of girl. I also have a tendency to completely shut down if it's super mean, but he knows I'm not leaving. I don't see a reason for him to be scared aside from the fact that he apparently lied to me from the start and is now trying to fix it. It's very unusual for me to really push back like I did with this.

We generally can calmly discuss our issues without it getting to that point. I'm not aggressive at all with him, it seems like this is just some weird manipulation thing.
