My buddy sent this to me. I think it would make an amazing prop or trap for an alternate-history game.

The half-circle-ish shape of the coin gave me a sudden burst of inspiration for the thousand-coin in my setting:

The thousand crown is shaped half-circular, but hollow on the inside. The hundred illesan crown is round, with an octagonal hole that fills it, reaching to the outer-points. The ten crown is octagonal and can fit in the center of the octagon, and has a round hole in the center the size of a quarter. The one crown is round, the size of a quarter, and can fit inside of the ten. The thousand crown is tall enough to stack in it ten assemblies of these-- known as 'The Hoard', or 'Hoard Crown'.

That's a standard one year of income for a peasant household.
Incomes are usually measured in multiples of the Hoard (thousand+filled) Crown.
IE: A farmer makes one Hoard a year, a blacksmith might make aproximately two Hoard, a noble might make ten Hoard.

The Hoard was initially designed in the First Empire by Grand Coinmaster Fereg Vos-Vald, after he saw the Al'shien mercenaries that the Emperor was hiring for a battle keep their coinage in protective purses made of turtle shells.

What do you think?
