My Cat Cries/Meows Increasingly With Age... and it Sounds Awful.

Not a vet but my almost 19 year old Chloe does this as well. She started a couple years ago and it's just part of her personality now. I've talked to my vet about it at length and she just says it's a sign of early dementia.

Chloe will have a few days where she doesn't "sing" that much but others where it's a few times an hour. Used to be only in the basement without anyone seeing her but like you said, now she doesn't seem to care who sees and does it right in the living room on top of her cat scratcher or her basket or wherever. My husband mentioned it's like she doesn't even know she's doing it or she's singing a sad song about a lost love called Raúl. It's heartbreaking and yes, I've had people ask what the HELL that sound in the background is when I'm on the phone. Little bit of attention and she's like "Huh? I'm fine!" purrpurrpurr.... ugh.

I've found one thing that seems to help after searching for hours online about this and if there's anything to do. One suggestion was the dope her up all the time but with her age and possible kidney issues- not a big fan of that idea. So I tried these vitamins I found on Amazon. They're large and very stinky and at first splitting them into two and using a pill pocket, she'd eat them right up. Then I had to coat the pill pocket in Flora (great for odd poopy situations btw) and she'd eat them like that. Now we're crushing them into wet food to get her to eat the "vitamin soup". They help. Check the reviews, you'll see a lot of people have cats who do this and this actually makes a difference. Not a cure- Chloe's yelling right now in fact- but really is the only thing I've found that helps. Maybe give 'em a shot. My vet looked over the bottle and said "eh, couldn't hurt- try it."

Good luck and know you're not the only one who goes through this with their baby. ❀◕ ‿ ◕❀
