I agree with the stealth approach. I think if he already knows you are gay, and he has followed you, it is probably safe to tell him that you think it's a pity he's straight (that will get you some kind of answer, I'd wager.) If he doesn't already know you are gay, how about letting him know you are gay, before letting him know you've got a crush on him. See how that goes. But commit yourself to finding some kind of resolution soon. A year of pining does something to a man's soul.
