My cousin opened up about why he still fears walking home alone

Something similar happened to me when I was about 14. My friend had come over to spend the night, and my mom had gone out. It was just the two of us, playing games and stuff, and a noise made us pause. Someone was violently jiggling the door handle as if trying to get in. It only lasted about a minute, but it freaked us the hell out. We lived in a group of town homes where the front doors of the homes faced one another.

The patio was always dark, so nobody would have seen someone trying to break in. My mom shrugged it off as a drunk neighbor mistakingly trying to get into our home, thinking it was theirs. I just accepted that as it was better to think that was the case instead of someone trying to get in.
