My CSP/Dermatillomania Story

Try not to think of treatments as something that either will or won't "work." Even the best type of therapy for you, whatever it may be, will still require lots of endurance and grit to benefit from. Psycho-therapies work by changing how we perceive things; patients, by nature, are resistant. Whatever type of treatment you take on, you're probably gonna find yourself thinking things like "This is bullshit" or "This doctor doesn't understand." In other words, it's very unlikely that you'll ever experience an "Ah-HAH!" moment where you find a something feels good and comfortable.

Now, I'm not saying everything every doctor says or does is correct, or that every type of therapy can work for everyone if they just endure it. I'm just pointing out something that doesn't get stated enough. People post here constantly talking about how they "tried x, z, y, and none of it worked," as if they're crossing off chemical combinations for a science experiment. Mental health doesn't work like that. There's hardly ever some finite line where something does or doesnt work, and if there is, it's not the place of the patient to determine where it is. Again, I'm not saying anyone here is necessarily wrong about any individual decision they made in regards to treatments; just that the pragmatic check-off sheet attitude is problematic.
