My dad is an alcoholic and has never really been a dad to me. Because of that, we never had those father/son times to be taught life lessons, how to fix a car, etc. What life lessons were you taught by your dad that you found useful as you got older?

i (m28) was raised mainly by women as my father left when i was like 2 and stepfather was only there to earn the moneys and casually fix stuff, but i dont think i missed something.

the only male influence i experienced was how he started hating me and tried to supress my opinions and ideas (especially in terms of fixing Stuff and improving our house) . while i grew up He pretty much failed hammering me into his super ancient picture of the perfect son. nowadays we ignore each other because any conversation that is not about how much i work and earn ends in a fight or family disaster.

well, at least He taught me how to not be a good dad.

greetings.
