I'm crying. Our situations are so similar and losing my cat like this is my biggest fear. I'm so, so, so sorry for your loss. I know how much of a comfort Iris must have been over the years and I wouldn't forgive him either. Parents like him are cruel and lack the empathy that's needed in this world. While I'm sure you feel guilt over it all, I'm also sure that your cat loved you and in a way knew that you couldn't do anything in that situation. One day you will be completely free of him and you'll be truly happy - and on that day, you can look back and be sure that Iris would be proud of you and how far you made it. <3 I am wishing you all the best, OP.
