My dearest Avó , she suffered from dementia for many years

Avó means grandmother in Portuguese. She was such a wonderful woman who was so nurturing, kind and a great cook. She's the reason why i love cooking so much and miss her food (my favorite was her sweet bread) she was a strong woman, who sadly had to face dementia the last few years of her life.

when she was really sick at the end she was surrounded by her entire family (25-30 people there, visitors coming all day long). she layed there on her bed , on heavy morphine, not responding to anybody, just laying there, taking each breath just holding on. people told me she's waiting for somebody before she passes (she was very religious) the whole day she didnt respond to anybody but me.

i walked up to her and held her hand, and before i could tell her i was there she let out a big gasp. everyone was shocked because she didn't respond to anybody the past couple days. later on i went to hold her hand, and told her that i was there and that i loved her. one second later she took her last breath. i miss her so, and thinking back on that day breaks my heart, but those words set her free from her dementia.
