My ex thinks preschool is unnecessary and our son shouldn’t go.

I don't want to sound like an old fogey, but preschools didn't exist when I was a kid. Everyone started in kindergarten and we all turned out fine. Even today, preschool isn't vital and a child who hasn't had that opportunity isn't doomed for life. When my kids were little, I helped out in their classrooms a lot and can tell you that kindergarteners and first graders differ so much in their skill levels, even after having attended preschool. Some can read, some can't. Some can follow directions, some can't. Some can sit still, some can't. Doesn't matter; it evens out in the end and by third grade they're all where they should be.

I'm only telling you this to ease your mind in case it turns out that your son won't be going to preschool. You definitely should fight to send him if that's what you want.
