Acknowledging her as a character with a large amount of fanservice is reasonable because she is. Treating her like a sex object as if she has nothing else to offer and completely discrediting her overall value for the series due to the "sex-appeal" trait definitely isn't in my book. "Wanking off" to Nami isn't what bothers me, it's diminishing her entire personality with that as an excuse.

It's mainly the Toei company at fault, not the original creator. They are the ones that applied even more ridiculous proportions and fanservice over the years. The only instances Oda draws her that way are occasions like bath scenes and colorspreads, which are both justified. People should know as the manga version is probably more popular at this point.
