My favourite and most recommended Tyler Cowen articles/ideas

The Kochs are more libertarian than conservative politically. I think that all the well known economists from GMU are libertarian as well. Terms like left and right get confusing when applied to economics IMO.

Masonomics puts a big emphasis on bottom up as opposed to top down economics. The trouble is that telling politicians that economic activity is an emergent system doesn’t get you any policy traction. Top down approaches are more appealing to politicians because they offer a simpler approach and a way to “do something.”

I think The general consensus is that GMU has an outsize influence on online Econ discussion and almost no influence in academic or political circles. The Mercatus center tries to drum up interest in their approach but it isn’t clear to me they have any success. I think there is more crossover in their influence in law. Some of the Econ folks teach at the law school.
