My first big project in digital art. Looking for critique

Hey! Thank you for the feedback. You really gave some thought into it and I appreciate that a lot.

I hope you don't mind reading a bit more since i'll just fire free for a bit since I feel like doing it :D

I totally understand what you mean since I already had the same thought. I think another word to describe it is elegance. The top is very gracefull and the roots are kind of gracefull but not enough. I often had the thought of using a more artistic less realistic (in a fantasy way) style and theme that would look really good. When I thought about making it all in a stylish symmetric way immediatly an image of art in layers occurred in my head. Leading in the direction of this http://www.inewidea.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/20140318214.jpg (absolutely love his pieces, almost forgot about them) or this http://www.gowithinyoga.com/wp-content/uploads/graphic-yoga-1.jpg just with more detail and texture - a little tweaked style. However this contradicts a little with the meaning of the picture that I had planed (https://www.reddit.com/r/learnart/comments/3s2415/my_first_big_project_in_digital_art_looking_for/cwtx58y). I don't know if you read this comment of me but it gives a raw impression of what I mean. The roots willl transition into water (maybe become water) so that is why they are so ephermal and around the water is lava (like the early states of our earth) and the water goes into the endless field of lava (like the early stages of our earth) and complementary kind of energy (elements clash). The tree is the center of creation - his seeds will spark life in a pure spiritual way (animal spirits and special plants i'm thinking of). So it's a picture portraying creational pure power in a spiritual way. The elegance of the shape of this and the tree as welll as the colorsheme will stand in contrast to the rough, sharp dark rocks and lava. I wanted to go even further and make this a series of the tree and his surrounding - I already have that vision in mind and know the titles. It would be 5 parts in total. I will make for each of them a seperate image of just the tree too (without the surroundings like this one). I'm working with a total resolution of 6200x7000. On gimp. With my mouse. On a laptop that can hardly process the data so it often crashes and the work is very slow. And I'm also studying (not art). I usually don't working for a longer time on things (gives you more time to think!) and I'm a perfectionist but this still might be too big since you want to see results or it can get a little frustrating (and you aren't in flow). A more 'artistic' (I'm almost sure I'm using the wrong word here) way of painting would help, save me a lot of time - however this is also very hard to achieve without paint dynamics you get by using a touchpad to draw (you also don't have the flow). A bit more 'thinking' but still less direct work - though I wouldn't be able to tell the story properly then. Arghh I'm not really happy with either way I guess. Hmm so before working on the roots again I'll have to make this decision I guess. These are key decisions. But I guess I have to make them on my own anyway since I'm the artist. So you caught me well on that sketchyness it was me not being clear yet and I knew it and it showed but ut I just wanted to get some results and saw how I did so far since sometimes things get boring :/ Thanks again and if you don't mind you can answer me if not that's fine. Last of all please excuse my bad english.
