My first impressions of Dragon Age: Inquisition - shallow as a puddle

There will be a plot point something like ten hours in where the game opens up and you really start to feel like you're not just another ragtag hero, but a messiah figure in charge of an organization running operations all across Thedas. You engage in politics and subterfuge and military skirmishes via the War Table. Running around doing side quests and closing demonic rifts nets you Power and Influence and helps expand the reach of the Inquisition.

This is true, and I really liked the prospect of that. It's something that not enough games do, or do well at least: integrating the player into the big picture, giving them the feeling of actually making a difference and accomplishing something through their efforts. Also, being in charge of the actual Inquisition is pretty cool.

Unfortunately, this is also the point at which the game shows its big publisher heritage, and decides to dump several truckloads worth of inconsequential, generic, and most of all boring open world filler pseudo-content on the player.
