My First WoT Read : A Memory of Light, Part 2

Fortunately Nynaeve arrives on the scene, and Egwene directs her to Talmanes. Whew.

I have this amusing mental image for some reason of Talmanes surviving this long because he's been laying there on a stretcher surrounded by cannons, intent that if the Reaper should come for him he'd better be ready to duck in a hurry.

“Actually, I have jumped off a cliff. Several of them.”

Androl is an interesting guy in part because of the amount of stuff he'd done prior to coming to the Black Tower.

And then Pevara does to him what Alanna did to Rand – bonding him without asking. But this time it doesn’t stop there. This time, Androl bonds her back and they end up with a super bond of sorts. It’s like the usual warder bond, but way more sensitive and deep. Typical Sanderson, doing all this crazy stuff with the magic. I’m loving it!

I almost have to forgive Pevara here for this; it was, as I recall, a strictly panic reaction and not an intentional violation like what Alanna did to Rand. Good scene; it also definitely helps sell their opposing backgrounds. Pevara may be pretty chill for a Red, but she's still steeped in the culture of viewing male channelers as dangerous, and that's what incited that semi-panicked response here, I would imagine.

Also, the double-bond is cool. "Release me!" "I don't know how, we never figured that part out!"

Aviendha, what in the name of a bloody goat’s left stone are you doing!”

I laughed so hard at this scene. Pretty cheeky of Aviendha, even if she didn't realize it.

I thought we took care of that in Caemlyn when Rand was bonded by the three.

Well...

Aviendha sniffed. “Enough talk. You will bed me now.”

I think we kinda did.

Don't get me wrong, I think all four of them kind of got a crap deal out of Cupid on this, but it's good that they've all made the most of it. Good that they can all respect and care about one another, rather than hating each other for the fact that the one man they all love in turn could not help but fall in love with the three women who kept him sane this far along.

Or drove him nuts, as in Aviendha's case.

but Pevara saves the day with an admirable display of badassery, taking them down solo.
