My friend had a run in with a fattie anon on her Tumblr and the entire exchange is pure gold.

Little back story here. I'm active military (11 years) and have been involved with helping out of shape or hurt people get back into shape, almost my entire career, voluntarily. Anyway, at one point I was leading a group of "waivers" (People medically excused from regular PT due to running limits, joint issues etc. about 3 years ago I set out to lead these folks, after getting a little info about what each could/couldn't do and let them know to bring it back or stop if they knew it was unsafe for their condition. Anyway, just before getting started, the wing commander (guy in charge of the base) shows up. He's a Brigadier select (colonel about to prompt to general). He's on a waiver. He "asked" if he could lead the PT. (By asking, he said "hey, would it be a problem if I ran this one today?) Ahhh, no, colonel, you go right ahead, sir.

Anyway, he didn't just lead it. He did every exercise and looked good doing it. Diring push-ups, he was the loudest one. Diring the runs, he was the fastest one (again, this was the broke people) anyway, when it was over, he gave a little speech that still amps me up.

It was something like

"How many of you are over 30?" (Few hands)

"How many of you are over 40?" (Fewer hands)

"Over 50?" (One hand, his)

Some of you need to reevaluate your life. I'm not going to point you out, but I know how easy it is to get a waiver. Some of you are abusing the system. I can see it when you're moving. I'm over 50 years old and If I can push through the pain, so can you. I Have two replaced tendons in my left shoulder, they cut them from my leg after a helicopter crash. I've got a cadaver graph in my right shoulder from taking shrapnel. I chew Motrin 800s like tic tacs just to get out of bed. When I tell you I hurt, I fucking hurt. It's painful but I get up and keep fucking moving foward. I can't and won't be stopped. If you're out here on a waiver becaus you think your side hurts when you run, get checked. If the doc can't figure it out, you're probably the problem. I know pain when I see it. 20 (something) years in, I've seen pain and I don't see that with some of you. I see a lot of giving up. You're part of the problem. Get out, we don't need that here. This isn't for those in legitimate pain. Tendons, torn muscles, broken bones, surgery...I get it. Those out here because they think they hurt. Those out here hiding from the real PT, those are the ones I'm talking about. You know who you are and you're not going to make it here.
