My friend who has less than a month (at the time) experience behind the wheel thought; Hitting the horn was more important than hitting the brakes

When I was a new driver I got into an accident. I was focused on a car ahead of me that was about to make a left turn into my lane and I didn’t notice that I was coming up to a yellow light, in my defense it was one of those weird lights where you cant really see what it is until you’re close to it, so i went through the intersection right as it turned red. His light turned green and he takes off and T-bones me. What was my mistake? (Other than blowing through a red light of course) I assumed the other driver would look and you know, not drive right into me. Also i found out later that he moved into the intersection while his light was still red. The moral of the story? There was two of us. And we were both idiots. And we were both in cars.
