Fortunately for the child as far as STIs are concerned, herpes is incredibly common and no, they will not suffer because of it. Over 80% population has been exposed to it and counting. Most of us already got exposure from our parents kissing us goodnight as children or during birth. In countries outside of US it's not even tested as an STI. And people don't ask if you have it (I've never asked and never been asked) as we were taught as children it is like asking if you've had measles or a cold. And sex Ed doesn't cover cold sores as an STI. Maybe genital herpes. However those can be interchanged depending phase of infection and contact.
